Gajibai's Kitchen Garden
Mrs. Gajibai is a poor lady who lost her husband in the year 2008 and thereafter she had to take up the responsibilities of the family. She is having three children, one girl and two boys. She is residing in a mud house. Lack of economic security she had to send her children to the government school. She used to go for daily wage for earning livelihood for her family and was earning Rs.100 per day. In the year 2010 she came to conduct with the Staff from Kripa. She became a member of Shree Ganesh SHG. After joining the group she got the opportunity to attend various training on different topics related to agriculture, good governance, health, community development etc. one of the meetings training resource person spoke about the kitchen garden and its benefit to maintain a healthy family. She was taken up by the class and she started in a small kitchen garden in her land. Slowly she thought of developing a vegetable garden. She started to cultivate the vegetable and sell out the vegetable to the public. At The initial stage she was getting Rs. 200 to 300 per day. As years passed her children also started to help her in this initiative. They have expanded the cultivation of vegetable gardens. According to Mrs. Gajibai they are earning Rs. 1500 to 1600 per day from the vegetable selling. Every year they do vegetable business for eight months. Radish, Sugar beets, Spinach, ladyfinger, coriander, brinjal, pumpkin and carrot etc are cultivated in her field. All her effort helped her to give a quality education to her children. She has started animal husbandry alone with the vegetable garden. She has constructed a new house. She has made one bore well and water is being used for the irrigation and drinking purpose. Her determination and hard work helped her to buy a loading vehicle. Her will power and consistent efforts brought remarkable change in the lifestyle and economic life. She is very happy with her present situation.
